Went to the movies tonight
Jul. 8th, 2005 04:41 amSaw War of the Worlds. I thought it was an excellent movie in how much humanity and lack of it, it portrays. How faced with so much uncertainty, hopelessness, and despair the human persona can take radically different paths. And then reading about London and arguments about supporting troops. It bothers me greatly people are so selfish and miss that alot of times wars are also fought to protect those who can not protect themselves.
One thing my father pounded into me, that one should never hurt those who can't defend themselves and should defend those individuals more so then any other person. I punched a girl in the arm when I was younger just play fighting and my dad smacked me upside the head. That's the day I vividly remember getting that lecture. And I think of all the times my father would have defended me versus a hopeless cause if it meant to protect me from it. Thinking of it all just make me really sad. I went and found an entry about my old boss's father who was killed. It's people like him that give me reason why we fight. Some people attempt to use logic and speak of peace, but I can't see how people who kill men like Frank's father can be reasoned with.

"Yesterday I got news that my boss's father who is an amazing man died in Saudi Arabia after an attack where he worked. Frank's dad left a company over 15 years ago that used to design rocket motors cause he didn't want to help advance anything that hurt people. He went to help build a hospital that was not only self-sufficient but also enviromentally friendly. It was evident in the things that Frank did that his father had a deep impact on his view on the world. Frank drives a hybrid car, is a vegetarian, and does little things like avoid electronic doors or driving to lunch instead opting to walk the couple blocks instead.

"Besides the boy, the dead included three Saudis, one American, one Italian, eight Indians, three Filipinos, two Sri Lankans, one Swede, one South African and one Briton, the ministry said."
Frank's dad was the one american. I wish the world didn't have to be like this."

For those who defend these people are my Heroes regardless of what other reasons they're sent to the places they are.

no subject
Date: 2005-07-08 04:07 pm (UTC)This is why I never really want to get into discussions on the topic. I feel that I could never in a million years do such a noble act as to offer my life to protect others, so I honor and envy those who can. It's a gift that very few people are born with.
I agree with you on this statement whole-heartedly.
War of the Worlds was pretty good

Just my two cents:
Date: 2005-07-10 03:28 am (UTC)The Beginning was really good. It got the viewer really hook as to what was happening. But then it lost all respect from me and my family when it didn't really go into detail as to why the aliens were wanting the planet Earth. It didn't tell us anything about what was what and what they needed to power their machines that they used to take things out. They didn't even give a fighting back sceen, like in the field when the helicopters went over the hill to attack em.' There were NO effects, no showing the helicopters fighting back and loosing, NOTHING!!!
And near the end it sorta (but not really) tells us that they need human blood to power their stuff. But nothing was ever said, it was just assumed.
During the whole movie really all you hear (or see) is Dakota Channing scream her head off. They centered the movie around her and gave her an important role when the only thing she is a claustrophobic brat and that all she does is scream, because she is scared.
And then they just end the movie, really NOT explaing ANYTHING!!! Now granted, they did say something about the "common cold" but not in any detail.
My dad had to explain a lot of it too me. In order to understand what is going on in it you would of had to of seen the older movie that was made or read the book.
Big, Huge Dissapointment. However, They advertised the movie very well! I'll give them that. That was what about it for making the movie good.
It was what, a 2 hour long movie, that I could have been sleeping. The only good out off it is that you get to see Tom Crusie take his shirt off. And even then it's not that good of a sceen.
