What a night

tsumikSo I go down to the kitchen for a drink of water and I hear this noise which I would have normally ignored but my roommate was right by the sliding glass door and proclaims that it was a car crash. We go out onto our deck and sure enough the street behind our house there is a set of car lights sitting there. So Brian calls the police to let them know there has been an accident and I run down the block and to the accident to see if everyone is ok.
Well I get there and one guy is stumbling around in the middle of the road completely disoriented where he is. The car looks like it had lost control and slammed into a large metal dumpster and flipped over. Car parts (side view mirror, bumper, headlight, etc) are all over the road. I first check to see if the staggering guy is bleeding and see only a few blood spots which don't look like they've come from him. He quite aggitated and not quite with it. He seems like he might be going into shock. I have him lie down on his back to prevent further injury and possibly getting hit by traffic.
He complains of having severe back pain and pain in several other areas. I get to the car just as the driver is climbing out the back window. He's bleeding from the face and states he think he's broken his shoulder and his neck hurts. I get both of them lying down next to each other with both legs elevated by a piece of timber they have dislodged with the car on impact.
Knowing the police are soon on their way I attempt to keep them both awake and talking. The first individual is sweating profusely and complaining over and over his back really hurts. He's wasn't showing any blood after another look and the best I could do was keep him talking. The driver I got the bleeding to stop and tried to get them both to relax as much as possible. Before the police show up the passanger stops sweating and starts getting cold and I do the best I can to prevent him to going into shock. Another 5 minutes pass with me trying to get as much information for them for the medics when they show about who they are, phone numbers, birthdates, etc. The police, EMTs, and Hazmat arrive and take over.
It's was lightly raining and I believe just started when the accident happened. The oil was probably just floating on the road cause of the rain just starting and hadn't had time to wash off the road making it very slick. They had gone head first through a timber garden enclosure and then right into a metal industrial dumpster which had deflected the car inverted. It was resting on the hood and roof of the car. Judging by the distance they moved the dumpster and where the car was resting they had to have hit it incredibly hard.
They seemed ok when I left. The EMTs had put them in neck braces and strapped them down to boards taking them away in an ambulance. All in all yet another crazy night. Glad God puts me in use of being able to help people. The police officer who had come to help with the old lady situation was there again with about 6 other officers. We talked a little and I told her "I seem to keep running into situations" and she just mentioned "Well I'm glad you could help." So sorry Gina that I had to run off on our conversation but by the time I could get back and wash the blood and sweat from my hands you were already logged off. All I can say though is; Again, glad I can help.

That was really awesome what you did. Not only did you control the situation, prevent further injury to the "PATIENTS" (which is a big deal), you gathered pertinent information for the EMT's and Paramedics to do their job faster and have a quicker and better outcome for the patients. You did more than a lot of firefighters do on med calls. Your a good man Charlie Brown.
