So yesterday was the first time I had ever taken pictures of food professionally. I didn't realize how difficult it was or how many factors came into play in taking pictures of food to make it look appetizing and delicious. I had read about all the crazy things that are done to food to make it look better then it is by cheating. (ie using things like motor oil, food coloring, foam, wood stain, hair spray, etc) I definitely felt if you can't get the photo looking good with how it is then it's not really very true.

I took pictures for a new resturant opening here in Atlanta called Sweet Lowdown. It looks like it's going to be an awesome place. Here's what the owner said in an email to friends and family.

"It is with great pleasure that I can formally announce a new project I have been working on for about a year now. Myself and some partners (including the owner of Fuego Spanish Grill in Midtown) are opening what will be one of the coolest restaurants Atlanta has ever seen. Ask yourself this question: If you wanted to go out to a cool and hip Southern restuarant in Atlanta, where would you go? You're probably struggling to come up with an answer. Well, you will soon have such a place and it is called "Sweet Lowdown." We are located at 942 Peachtree Street, right in the heart of Midtown and across the street from the Metropolis condos. We took over the building that was going to be another place called the Waterhouse and have made it our own.

In two words, the restaurant will be "Modern Southern." We have managed to get one of the hottest chefs in the city Carmen Cappello. He was formerly with the Ritz Carlton downtown, Two. Urban Licks and was most recently the executive chef at MIX! in Brookhaven. Joining him will be Paul Wooten from Vinocity. Our management staff is second to none, having managed Sushi Samba and Nobu in New York City. Celebrity designer Brian Patrick Flynn (you may know him from his show "Movie and a Makeover" on TBS) has transformed the site with his contemporary Southern design. The building is two floors and totals about 11,000 square feet. We will have an amazing bar downstairs and an incredible event facility space upstairs with its own bar, kitchen and state-of-the-art audio/visual system (including plasma screens with HD).

We are scheduled to open to the public on November 20 so get ready. We are also now actively hiring servers, bartenders, hostesses, etc. so PLEASE let me know about anyone who is interested in joining this amazing team."

It was quite a challange but everything went great and the photos turned out even better. Of course with any photoshoot my sync cord connector broke so I had to manually hold it in place as I was taking pictures. Always something has to break or stop working =) But here are the photos!

Comments welcome! =)
