What a interesting idea
Sep. 11th, 2002 11:08 amSo a friend of mine drives a motorcycle and I'd like to see him stay around a little longer on planet earth. Well since a lot of people driving cars don't ever pay attention to motorcycles (I personally give them wide berth cause goodness knows I'd be nervous as crap if some 3 ton steel car was hounding me while I was sitting on top of a bike) Well today he almost got hit by a car while. He was practically standing on the brakes to avoid getting run over. He layed down the horn and get this. The guy puts down his breakfast in his left hand and holding his cellphone in his right turns around and waves like saying thanks for letting me in. So we thought up an interesting idea. A little portable remote control type thing that you can point at people on the road on there cellphone, fire a small emf burst and basically disconnect them. Of course this is sort of counter productive cause the people willing to drive and talk are also ones who would probably just redial and redial everytime they got disconnected which would mean they would pay even less attention to what they were doing on the road.... sigh.
But it is sort of amazing that there is so much technology out there that people never make the connects to things. Like take for example palm pilots. Just a calendar and address book right? Did you know that most palm pilots infrared port on the front is sophisticated enough to record and play back most keyless entry signals for cars? Yep that's right if someone gets ahold of your keys just for a split second they can record your remote signal and presto instant access to your car.
But I think I'll shut up now before I give you all too many weapons to get you in trouble =)

Date: 2002-09-11 03:07 pm (UTC)I swear some people leave their brains behind when they get into their car. I, on the other had, still remember very clearly that Red Asphalt video they showed me in drivers ed. That, combined with a few other things, have made me a paranoid driver...but sometimes paranoid is good. I've never caused an accident or gotten anything more than a parking ticket (though my car has been tagged in the rear a few times by said stupid people who aren't paying attention to what's going on outside their car like they're supposed to. grr.).
But yeah, I leave motorcycles plenty of room, too. Especially when they're in front of me cuz they can stop a helluva lot faster than my car can and I reeeally don't wanna run anyone over.
