Well at least this post won't be all doom and gloom like I thought...

So today I stopped by Eleven50 for my meeting at about 4pm which went quite well. I walk outside and run into the owner of Sutra and we're standing outside talking for a decent bit. We say our byes and I walk to my car and start to call [livejournal.com profile] househead. I just happen to turn my head and catch a glimmer out of the corner of my eye. I look back and see all these sparkly things in my seat. I say to myself "hey what's all this glass doing in my car... wait my window is gone... ..... .... wait my backpack is gone"

So needless to say in the middle of daylight with tons of people walking around the street right there on the corner of Cresent Ave and 13th street someone punched through my back window and grabbed my backpack from behind my seat. The only thing of any real value in the backpack was my RCA Lyra MP3 which is probably worth a couple hundred bucks. But the only other things in my backpack were stuff for school and my student grade book.

I spent the better part of the day walking around midtown looking through dumpsters and behind building etc hoping to find the discarded bag and hopefully find my student grade book. No such luck. But heres an interesting plot twist. While searching for the bag I find a day planner just laying out by one of the clubs. And It's a pretty nice day planner and there was no one in sight. The way it was sort of laying on the wall though it definitely looked like someone had dropped it or gone through it. Upon looking in it I realize that someone has probably lost it cause it's got alot of important business cards etc. So I start attempting to figure out who's day planner it is and how to get it back to them. Might as well right?

So more walking and searching and Alas I see a bag with papers throw out of it off to the side by this entryway. When I get up to it I can tell it's not mine. But a quick glance at the papers I notice it's the same person that is connected to the day planner. Then I realize it's someone elses bag which had been stolen from them. Cause this bag is no more then about 15 feet from my car. The day planner was quite a bit down the block. I call a couple numbers out of the day planner after determining the name of the person. Finally get ahold of someone and they say they know this guy named Vince. I ask him to have Vince call me as I believe I have his stuff. Vince can't be reached but a message is left. I put all the stuff in my trunk since you have to have the remote to open it up and transfer all the valubable stuff to the trunk also. Which is sort of funny and lucky for me. Cause guess what else was in the car. Yep my camera in a box to ship out to Nikon. Thankfully they just grabbed my backpack not the box.

So I hang out in midtown for a bit looking around more and more for the bag eventually going to Fuego and having a drink. Vince calls and is sort of all flustered on the phone. He is happy to hear about his bag and I give him directions to where I am so he can retreive his bag. When he gets to Fuego I return his bag and day planner to him and he's really happy about it. Turns out earlier that day the person broke into his truck by smashing the window and grabbed his bag. His car was in the parking deck of his apartment building two streets over from where my car was hit. But here's the REAL kicker. Apparently while he was out looking for his bag since he knew it was all just papers and such he gets hit by a car crossing the street.

I guess he was just sort of frazzled and a mercedes almost plowed him. Poor guy. But to make matters worse when the cop showed up he gave the driver AND Vince a citation!? Talk about a bad day huh? Vince gave me a $20 as a thanks and said "have a drink on me" I really didn't want the money just cause I was glad to give him his bag back after all he'd been through. He was definitely walking with a limp which I felt bad about.

So I went back to fuego to have dinner and the owners bought me dinner cause they felt bad for me. Rodney and Connie are two of the nicest people. If you've never been to fuego you MUST go. The food is excellent, the service is fantastic, and it couldn't be a nice group of people. I'm not plugging them cause they gave me free food or anything. I'm in there quite a bit. I'm plugging them cause I think good people should be rewarded with business. So I gave the $20 as a tip to the bartender at Fuego for buying me a shot.

Who btw was incredibly pleasent to talk to. She's a great conversationalist, really pretty, and while I've met her a few times before it was a nice touch to my crappy day. But I got home and cleaned out most of the glass out of the back of my car. BTW Saftey glass while breaking into small little pieces to prevent getting cut still leaves little tiny splinters of glass. I found that out the hard way and got one in my finger.

BUT the happy ending. I log into my school email and there's an email from someone who found my bag. *tear* Not sure what's left in it but all I care about is my students grades. But today made me realize that alot of people worry about so many things. So many people today couldn't understand why I was so calm about everything. All I could think was through it all no matter what I lost and how much money it's going to cost me to replace my window that at the end of the day I have wonderful friends and company around me. And really that helped me feel ok about everything else. Cause really what more in life does one need?

Wow! What a crazy day. You're one in a million for going to all that trouble for someone you don't even know. I'm so glad your bag was found too.

By the way, you have such a wonderful outlook on life. That's a very unique quality these days - don't let anything take it away from you.

I hope today is full of happiness.

No, I don't think we were on each other's friend's list. You can add me and I'll add you though. I haven't typed in here in a long time, been keeping a journal on another site. I probably will start this one up again though. :)
