Traffic migratory patterns
Nov. 24th, 2003 09:56 amIt's so funny when traffic lights go out. Everyone creeps up to the line ever so slowly and then it's a stand off to see who's actually going to go. Then one brave soul jumps out there and all other directions stomp down on there breaks with the "damn I should have made the first move" faces. Everyone else going in the similar direction kick on the gas to follow the lead of the brave one. What's funny is it's not like one set of cars one way then the other. It's like a king of the hill game for the intersection. As soon as the brave one put themselves out there all the cars like lemmings race and follow the lead but in a nonstop stream until one person in that group either feels the other side should go, they're overly cautious, or their falling too far behind and leave a gap. Then it's back to the stand off. It's funny how an intersection can be a indicator of human behavior sometimes.
Some of us are the ones that cast themselves out there taking risks for the greater reward. Others are the ones who follow along in the good company of the ones who lead. Others follow along in the there's safety in numbers, but it's not something I'd do myself. And then there's the ones who are either mindful of others, too afraid until pushed to make a decision, and the ones that just bumble along life.
I guess then what sort of car are you? =)
