I'm going to be quite graphic so seriously don't read if these sort of things bother you.

It was about 7:30am and I had just dropped off my dog to my parents house after picking her up from the kennel. So I was all cheery and happy cause I don't get to see my dog much.

As I'm driving down the road enjoying that glow of playing with my dog and seeing fog and what not in the morning like I used to in California which I don't get to do any more since I'm never up by 8am, I was following behind this car. nothing special just some standard car, grey in color even I think not even silver.

Then it happened in some surreal motion. Out of the corner of my eye this little sparrow comes flying out of a bush like they normally do zipping in front of cars. Now I've had one hit my windshield before but this was something that I was totally not prepared for.

I truly wonder if accidents that happen with people watching them are just in total disbelief that something is happening. Like car accidents and what not. It just doesn't seem real as it happens in real life versus like real TV or something.

Anyway so this bird starts heading toward this car and I know the driver totally doesn't see it cause the bird is flying low to the ground. And then it happens. I think it mis timed everything and was just traveling too slow. I'm guessing the right wing of the bird got cause by the tire tread and yanked the bird right out of the air and under the tire. What I proceed to see was this little mass of a bird come spiraling out horizontally with bits and pieces flying off it like a piece of blender chewed meat. It hit the ground and went right under my car.

And then it happened that moment of eerie silence and feeling of how small life is in the world. In a instant this little bird went from happily teasing flight to a shredded mass of parts slinging through the air.

All I could think of was while a car is a very large thing versus a car, there is a lot of things that people are versus in the world. I think that's why I freak out when in water like a lake or ocean when I realize I can't feel the bottom and it's not like a few feet under me. cause I think how very defenseless and powerless I would be and could easily turn into that bird.

As strange as it sounds with all that I'm talking about I don't really fear death. I fear the act of dying. The notion of leaving this world in a grimly way. So it just makes me think as your around other people how really frail they really are. And to cherish human life before it's no more.

So little bird rest in piece my friend your loss isn't for not.
